Men's Soccer Suffers First Loss of the Year

COLUMBIA, SC- Men's Soccer suffered its first loss of the season on Thursday night, falling to Pensacola Chrisitan in Non-Conference action by a final tally of 3-0.

The Koalas, who scored 20 goals in their first three outings, were held off the scoreboard for the first time this season despite some quality scoring chances late in the first half.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Pensacola recorded their first score of the night in the 16th minute when a high arching pass found the foot of Luke Miklas in the box; he finished past Mynor Gonzalez, who's allowed just four goals in four games.
  • Late in the opening half, it looked like Jakeem Amuda had notched things up with a five-hole score. However, the head referee waived it off with an offside call that was subject to some boo-birds.
  • The Eagles controlled possession and pace in the final 45 minutes, adding another score in the open field in just the 46th minute; their last score came on a penalty kick.

UP NEXT:

The Koalas return to action on Saturday when they travel to Johnson (TN) for the Appalachian Athletic Conference opener. Game time is set for 4:30 PM.
