COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss on wednesday evening falling 2-1 at home to AAC rival St. Andrews University.
SAU got on the board first scoring in the 20th minute of the first half on a goal off a corner kick set piece to go up 1-0. Then, after a missed penalty kick by the Knights, SAU struck again in the 23rd minute with Jayden Robinson scoring his second goal on a tap-in in front of the net as they went into the half up 8-3 in shots.
The Koalas then struck early in the second half as senior defender Jakeem Amuda scored unassisted in the 51st minute to get CC right back in the game. However, their tying goal would be tough to come by as numerous chances would go for naught until the final minute. Columbia took a last minute corner kick and attempted three shots inside the box in front of the net, but could not get it past the SAU keeper and fell 2-1.
The shot count was 7 apiece in the second half as goalkeeper Jake Marks made seven saves on nine shots on goal. Senior midfielder Dan Stryffeler led the Koalas with three shots on goal.
Columbia falls to 3-9-2 overall and 2-8 in the conference while St. Andrews improves to 6-6-1 overall, and 4-5 in conference.
The Koala men will next return to action on Saturday when they head up to Kentucky to battle KCU in a 3:00 pm kick.
