Men's Swimming places 4th at AACs

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Milligan won its fourth consecutive Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's Swimming Championship. The three-day event was held in Kingsport, Tenn. at the Kingsport Aquatic Center in the HMG Competition Pool.

Rounding out the team scores, Union College, Ky. finished second with 590 points, WV Tech was third with 472 points, Columbia was fourth scoring 163 points, and Pikeville, Ky. was fifth with 61 points.

The men's 200 yard medley relay team finished 4th in 1:58 led by senior Nicholas Topar running the fastest leg in 26 seconds while senior William Evans, sophomore Kell Evans and freshman Ja'mal Johnson also swam on the team. Then, in the 200 Free Relay, Columbia finished 4th in 1:45 as Will Evans ran the fastest opening leg in 22.5 while Topar finished his leg in 24.6, Johnson in 28.2 and Kell in 30.5.

Will Evans then led the team in the 400 Free Relay as he finished his leg in a team-best 23.6 seconds to help the team place 4th out of 7 in 4:03 for 30 team points. Nopar swam his leg in 27 seconds while Johnson completed his in 28.8.

The Koalas were then led by Will Evans in the 50 Freestyle as he placed 7th in the finals in 22.2 seconds, just 1.3 seconds off the winning time of 20.9. Evans also placed 9th overall out of 15 in the 100 Breaststroke in 1:03 as he just missed qualifying for the finals. Will also finished 8th out of 18 in the 100 Free Finals in 50 seconds but his prelim time had him qualify in 6th place in 49.5.

Topar then placed 11th in the 100 yard Butterfly in 57.9 seconds while Johnson was 10th in the 200 Free in 2:14. Topar also finished 12th in the 100 Backstroke in 59.8 seconds and was 8th in the 200 Back in 2:10.
