Men's Tennis Shuts out SWVCC
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College men's tennis team shut out Southwest Virginia Community College 7-0 at home on Wednesday afternoon.
The Koala men first got the doubles point on the board as all three teams won their bouts 6-0 each. The team of junior Waldo Bosch and freshman Thomas Remely won at the #1 position while the #2 team of O. Brumfield and G. Kian cruised to the 6-0 win. Finally, the #3 team of sophomores Tiaan Jacobs and Michael Schiesz sailed to the win.
The Koalas then won all six singles matches led by Ozzy Bosch at the top spot winning 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Gabriel Kian then won 6-3, 6-2 at the 2 spot while junior Owen Brumfield took his match 6-2, 6-0 at the 3 spot. Freshman Thomas Remely notched a 6-3, 6-0 win at the 4 spot before freshman Andrew Broyles picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5. Junior Connor DuPree then clinched the final point with a shortened 8-0 win at the 6 spot.
Last weekend, the Koalas battled hard, but came up short during their AAC contest at Milligan Univ. (TN) on Saturday dropping it by a score of 0-7. the top doubles team of Bosch and Kian fell 4-3 at the 1 spot while the team of senior Liam Barry and Jacobs went down 6-1. The third team of Schiesz and Remely fell 6-2.
In singles, Barry lost 6-2, 6-2 at the #1 position while Bosch went down fighting 2-6, 4-6 at the number 2 spot. Kian lost at #3, Jacobs went down at #4, Brumfield lost a battle at #5, and Remely fell at #6. Milligan improved to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
With Wednesday's win, the Koalas improve to 5-5 overall and will next remain home to host Pikeville (KY) Saturday at 1:00 PM in a pivotal AAC matchup.
