Men's Track & Field Places 19th at Montreat

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. - The Columbia College men's track and field team competed in the mountains at AAC foe Montreat College over the weekend and came away placing 19th overall out of 24 schools in the open with 7 points. Columbia was 6th of 10 among NAIA schools represented.

In the sprints, freshman Deshawn Mungo led the way placing 8th overall out of 20 in the 110 meter Hurdles in a time of 16.5 seconds. Then in the 100 meter dash, Columbia was led by freshman Bradley Tilby placing 10th overall in 10.9 seconds while junior Jaden Watt-Martin was right behind in 11.17 seconds and in 21st place. Freshman Willy Calcano also competed in the 100 meters and placed 34th in 11.46 seconds while junior temmate Xavier Linen was right behind in 36th in 11.5. Sophomore Caleb Bailey was also in the 100 and came in 41st in 11.58.

In the 400 meters, freshman Kimarje White finished 15th of 47 crossing the line in 50.3 seconds while fellow freshmen William Bull and Evan McLeod each ran times of 4:32 and 4:35 in the 1500 meters to place 54th out of 80.

In the 5K race walk, the Koalas were led by junior Dorde Racic placing 7th in 26:58 while Bull came in 10th in 32:09. Finally, the 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Calcano, Watt-Martin, Bailey and Tilby, placed 5th in 42.4 seconds and were third among NAIAs.

In the field events, Junior Daylon McDonald finished 22nd out of 45 in the Discus Throw with a mark of 38.8 meters while Geo Tobias came in 33rd in 34.5 meters. Then, in the Hammer Throw, McDonald again led the way and placed 20th in 39.1 meters while junior Gavin Rice was 24th in nearly 37 meters. Next was the Javelin and freshman Jarek Asencio placed 16th out of 30 with a throw of 42.8 meters.

Finally, in the Shot Put, Tobias led the Koalas placing 24th of 45 with a throw of 11.65 meters while McDonald was right behind in 28th in 11.35 meters. Jonathan Davis and Rice also competed and finished tied for 32nd with marks of 10.6 meters.

The men will next hit the track on March 29-30 at the V12 Invitational in Jacksonville, FL.
