COLUMBIA, SC- With the first game of a new season, there will always be some rust. It took the Koala Women's Basketball team the first two minutes to shake it off, but once they did, they ran away with the season opener, 76-46.

The Koalas will start the season with a 1-0 record after a dominant performance against non-conference foe Paine College.

The first quarter started sluggish, with both teams failing to convert in the first two minutes, but once the Koalas found the bottom of the net, the floodgates opened. Columbia ripped off a 23-point quarter while holding the guests to just seven.

The second quarter was slightly sluggish on both sides as the Koalas found just 14 points while Paine managed eight. Columbia carried a 37-15 lead into the half.

The Koalas dominated the second half, while nearly everyone saw the floor en route to a home opener victory.

Lauren Wearbon and De'Asia Feaster paced the starting five as each eclipsed double digits with ten; Wearbon also collected six rebounds in 31 minutes of action. Leah Page led the way with a team-high 15 points in 18 minutes off the bench in her debut.

The Koalas will return to action next Wednesday, the 8th when they travel to Brenau for a 5:30 PM tip.
