Royals Outlast Koalas in AAC Home Opener

COLUMBIA, SC- Koala Women's Basketball returned to the friendly confines of Porter Gymnasium on Tuesday night after a short two-game road trip last week.

The Koalas welcomed the Johnson Royals to town for the Appalachian Athletic Conference home opener; the guests escaped with the win, 75-69.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Johnson jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter, getting help from a few missed Koala layups.

Once Columbia found its rhythm, they battled back to cut the lead down to 11 at the break, outscoring the guests 19-17 in the second frame.

The start of the second half saw the Royals retake control, but the Koalas never let up. The home team dominated the final ten minutes of action, 26-17, but the Royal lead proved too much for the Koalas to overcome.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

Anaya Muhammad and Tamyra Davis led the Koalas with 13 points each, while Tysonia Lowe netted 12 off the bench. Lauren Wearbon also eclipsed double-digits thanks to a 2-of-4 shooting effort from behind the three-point line.

The Koalas will welcome cross-town rival CIU to Porter Gym on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
