Koalas Ground Flying Fleet, 65-55
COLUMBIA, SC- Columbia College Women's Basketball bounced back on Monday evening after a tough outing on Saturday. The Koalas saw a significant second-half lead evaporate but held on for the win, 65-55.
THE BASICS:
The win over NCAA DII Erskine improves the Koala's overall record to 5-4, but they remain at 3-3 inside of Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. The loss for the Flying Fleet is the second in their third outing of the season; they've also played two exhibition games.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Both teams deployed a full-court press in the first quarter, sometimes resulting in some sloppy play, but the Koalas emerged with a 16-6 lead.
Each side settled down in the second quarter, and things got closer as the guests scored 13 to the Koalas 15 to head into the locker room down 31-19.
Columbia won the third quarter again, but the guests put the pressure on in the fourth.
A barrage of three-point shots in the fourth from Erskine cut the Koala lead way down, as they won the fourth 25-19, but the lead built throughout the first 30 minutes of action was too much to overcome.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Anaya Muhammad poured another impressive 24-point outing to lead the way; she was two of three from downtown and shot 7-of-11 in the field in 31 minutes. The rest of the offense was balanced, as no other Koala eclipsed double-figures, but eight recorded a basket.
UP NEXT:
Columbia will return to action on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. when they welcome AAC foe Reinhardt to Porter Gymnasium.
