Comeback Complete! Koalas Rally Late for AAC Win

COLUMBIA, SC- In one of the season's most thrilling games inside Porter Gymnasium, Columbia Women's Basketball completes a late comeback to knock off Union College, 82-78. With the win, Coach JJ Green and the Koalas set a new program record for wins in a season; they still have two games to play.

Columbia and Union entered tonight's contest both 7-12 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play, tied for the final tournament spot.

Before the game, the Koalas honored their lone senior, Carnasia Wells, who entered the game averaging 13 points per game for her career and already eclipsing the 1,000-point scoring mark.

She was nothing short of spectacular between the lines.

With 2:33 remaining in the game, the Bulldogs held a 74-65 lead... what happened over the next 2:11 will be discussed for the rest of the season.

With their backs against the walls, Columbia ripped off a 15-0 run fueled by a three from Wells, a converted and-one from Leah Page, and then another Wells three followed by two clutch free throws for the senior leader to pull ahead by one.

Wells stepped up when her team needed her the most, leading the way with a game-high 22 points in 26 minutes. She knocked down 4-of-6 three-point attempts, went 8-of-13 from the field, and recorded two steals.

Leah Page (18) and Anaya Muhammad (15) joined Wells in double-figure scoring, while Tysonia Lowe grabbed 13 rebounds and just missed a double-double with eight points.

The game featured a combined 47 turnovers, but the Koalas capitalized on 21 Bulldog giveaways, turning those into 34 points. Columbia also pushed the pace, scoring 18 fast break points compared to just six for the visitors.
