
Women's Basketball Dominates Morris in Season Opener
COLUMBIA, SC - The Columbia College women's basketball team opened their season Thursday evening with a walloping 84-53 victory over Morris College from a sold out Godbold center.
The Lady Koalas got out to a 27-19 lead after the first quarter before taking a 41-25 advantage into the halftime break. After Morris won the third quarter 20-17 to get to within 13 points at 58-45, the Koalas put the hammer down outscoring the Hornets 26-8 in the fourth for the 30-point win.
CC shot 38.5 percent from the floor overall but just 22 percent from three and 63 percent from the free throw line while also out-rebounding the Hornets 52-43 in the post. Columbia was led by 16 points from senior forward Tamyra Davis along with 14 points from sophomore guard Anaya Muhammad and 11 points from sophomore guard Tysonia Lowe. Lowe also led the team with 8 rebounds along with 2 assists and a steal while Muhammad had 5 rebounds and 3 assists with Davis chipping in 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists.
Also finishing in double-figures was senior guard Keyshuna Fair with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals a block and an assist. Sophomore guards Kindan Dawson and Lauren Wearbon also combined for 13 points, 6 steals and 3 assists off the bench while Dawson added 5 rebounds. Junior Forward De'Asia Feaster and junior guard Makayla Street also combined for 9 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists.
The women will return right back to action on Saturday when they remain home to host Bob Jones University at 2:00 PM.
