Women's Hoops Starts off 2-0 with Win over BJU

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College Lady Koala basketball team is off to a 2-0 start to begin the season as they defeated Bob Jones University 76-55 at home Saturday afternoon.

Senior shooting guard Keyshuna Fair led the Koalas with 16 points on 5 of 9 shooting overall and 3 of 7 from three-point range. She also had 4 rebounds, an assist and a steal in the win while freshman Jadein Haynes also finished in double figures scoring 10 points with three 3s and a steal as well.

CC shot 45 percent overall and 29 percent from deep while forcing BJU into 35 turnovers and picking up 17 steals as a team. After the first quarter came to a close with the score knotted at 14 apiece, the Koalas then outscored the Bruins 20-9 in the second quarter to head into the break up 34-23.

Columbia continued to pour it on in the third quarter outscoring the Bruins 23-8 to go up 57-31 going into the fourth, their biggest lead of the game before point guard Layla Wall's three put CC up 60-31. Wall would finish with 5 assists and 5 points while BJU would rally somewhat against the Koala reserves in the fourth 24-19.

Columbia also received good performances from guards Lauren Wearbon and Makayla Street combining for 14 points off the bench with Street adding a team-high 5 steals, 4 rebounds and 2 assists as well.

Columbia will next head on the road for the first time to take on Spartanburg Methodist on Wednesday at 5:30 PM.
