Koala Women Roll Past JWU
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Columbia College women's basketball team routed Johnson & Wales University 85-55 on the road Monday evening to continue their perfect start to the season at 4-0.
However, a competitive first quarter saw the Koalas lead by just three 18-15 after the first before CC outscored the Lady Cats 22-10 in the second to take a 40-25 lead at the break. Columbia then continued to pile on in the 3rd quarter winning it 19-10 to take a 59-35 advantage into the fourth where CC then put up 26 points outscoring JWU 26-20 for the 30-point win.
Columbia shot 45.5 percent overall and 27 percent from three while holding JWU to just one three-pointer and only 19 made shots (31%) for the entire game.
CC was led by sophomore guard Tysonia Lowe, who scored a season-high 22 points on 9 of 11 shooting along with 6 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals. Also playing well off the bench was sophomore guard Makayla Street who scored 14 points with 2 rebounds, a 3-pointer, and a steal.
The third and final member of the Koalas to finish in double figure scoring was senior shooting guard Keyshuna Fair as she posted 14 points on an impressive 4 of 7 shooting from 3-point range along with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Sophomore Guard Anaya Muhammad, pictured below, also tallied 4 points with 4 assists, 3 steals and a block while junior forward Kamya Hatten scored 7 points with 2 assists and 2 steals. Sophomore forward Lauren Wearbon also led the team with 6 rebounds.
The unbeaten Koalas will next go on the road to NCAA Div. I Appalachian St. (NC) on Wednesday for a 5 PM exhibition game before heading to Greenville to face Bob Jones on Saturday at 2PM.
