Lady Koalas Steamroll St. Andrews, Improve to 6-0

COLUMBIA, SC – The Columbia College women's basketball team secured their first conference win of the season with a dominant 99-74 home victory over St. Andrews University (NC) on Wednesday evening.
The Koalas' sixth straight win to open the season improves them to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, the best start to a season in school history.
Senior guard Keyshuna Fair led the way for the Lady Koalas, scoring 22 points on 50% shooting, including six three-pointers, along with 3 rebounds and a steal. Sophomore guard Anaya Muhammad contributed 16 points and 3 steals, while junior guard Makayla Street brought energy off the bench, tallying 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. The Koalas' defensive effort was on full display, as they collected 20 steals and forced 33 turnovers from the Knights, who fell to 1-4 overall.
Columbia got off to a fast start leading 18-6 before it ended the first quarter with a 28-19 lead. They then opened the second quarter with a 7-2 run to push their lead to 35-21. The Knights managed to remain within striking distance, but the Koalas held steady with a 48-39 lead at halftime. By the end of the third, Columbia maintained control at 69-58. In the fourth, the Koalas began to pull away, outscoring SAU 30-16 to ultimately secure a dominant 99-74 win. CC shot 42 % overall and 35 percent from behind the 3-pt arc.
Senior guard Callie Hermanson and sophomore guard Tysonia Lowe combined for 18 points and 2 steals off the bench including 3 assists from Lowe, while fellow guard Kindan Dawson filled the stat sheet with six points, six rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals, and a block.
Senior forward Tamyra Davis also contributed across the board with 8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Sophomore forward Kamya Hatten provided an additional spark with 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists off the bench while fellow forward De'Asia Feaster added 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists as well.
The Koalas will head on the road for their next matchup, taking on Bluefield University (Va.) on Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm to continue AAC play.
