Lady Koalas Roll Past CIU, Improve to 9-1

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's basketball team rolled to their 9th win of the season on Tuesday on the road defeating crosstown rival CIU 91-70.

The win improves the Koalas to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the AAC, moving into a tie for first place.

CC was led by 17 points from senior guard Keyshuna Fair as she made five threes and pulled down five rebounds with a block and a steal. Point guard Tysonia Lowe then added a team-best five assists with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and two steals.

Columbia got off to a fast start leading 19-8 after the first quarter before a competitive second quarter saw the Koalas lead 37-24 at the halftime break. A high-scoring third quarter then saw the teams combine for 56 total points as CC outscored the Lady Rams 29-27 to lead 66-51 heading into the fourth. The Koalas then put away the Rams with a 25-19 fourth quarter.

Also playing well were starters, junior guard Layla Wall and senior Tamyra Davis combining for 26 points and 10 rebounds as they each scored 13 apiece and pulled down 5 boards each. Wall also added 3 assits and 3 steals to lead the Koalas. Junior guard Makayla Street then chipped in 11 points off the bench with two steals as she completed the quintet of double-digit scorers. Junior forward Kamya Hatten also had a solid game leading in rebounds with seven along with 4 points, 3 assists and 2 steals.

All 14 Lady Koalas that entered the game scored at least one point for CC while 7 different women knocked down three-pointers for Columbia. The Koalas also forced 29 CIU turnovers while grabbing 14 steals. Columbia shot 44 percent overall from the floor and 39 percent from three.

The Koalas will now enjoy their Thanksgiving break before getting back into conference action next Wednesday when they head down to north Georgia to battle Brenau University in a 5:30 pm tip.
