Lady Koalas Narrowly Defeated at Bryan College, 79-76
DAYTON, Tenn. - In a tightly contested AAC basketball contest, the Columbia College women's basketball team suffered a narrow defeat against the Bryan College Lions on Monday in Dayton, TN. The final buzzer saw the Bryan Lions rally in the fourth quarter to knock off the Koalas 79-76.
Despite an impressive 6-point lead at halftime with the Lady Koalas up 40-34, Bryan would come back with a 29-18 fourth quarter while CC led by eight at 58-50 heading into the final frame.
Junior guard Makayla Street led the scoring for Columbia with a solid 18 points on 6 of 9 shooting, complete with 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. However, even this effort was not enough to put CC over the top. Sophomore teammate Kindan Dawson added 6 rebounds, and 2 assists to her 3-point tally, while senior guard Callie Hermanson contributed 9 points, all from beyond the 3-point arc.
Additional crucial double-digit scoring came from guard Tysonia Lowe and senior forward Tamyra Davis, scoring 10 and 13 points respectively, with Lowe contributing six rebounds, five assists, 2 steals and a block. Junior Guard Layla Wall also added 4 points, 3 boards, 3 assists, a steal and a block while forward Cecilia Burke tallied 7 points off the bench.
Columbia shot nearly 52% for the game and 33 percent from three while going perfect from the free-throw line.
Despite the loss, the Lady Koalas posted a strong performance and resilience throughout the contest. Their current season record stands at 13-4 overall, with an AAC record of 6-4. Bryan improves to 8-9 overall and 6-6 in conference.
