Lady Koalas Roll Past CIU

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's basketball team rolled past crosstown rival Columbia International University 84-38 at home Wednesday night.
The Koalas had four women finish in double-figures led by De'Asia Feaster with 12 points, 7 rebounds and no turnovers, while shooting 5 of 6 overall. Off the bench, sophomore guard Jadein Haynes chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds while junior guards Layla Wall and Tysonia Lowe both scored 10 points each. Wall had 4 assists and 5 steals as well while Lowe posted 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
Off the bench, the Koalas totaled 43 points including a combined 16 points from junior guards Kindan Dawson and Makayla Street while Dawson led with the most assists gaining five along with 2 steals and 3 boards. Street added 7 rebounds, 3 steals and a block as well. Junior forward CeCe Burke also had a good night scoring 9 points on 3 of 6 shooting from behind the arc while freshman guard Chassidy Rookard added 6 points as well.
Columbia led a low-scoring first quarter 14-10 until they got heated up in the second. They then went on to outscore the Lady Rams 25-9 in the second quarter to take a 39-19 halftime lead. After the halftime break, CC continued staying hot by outscoring CIU 23-13 while making great runs on offense and playing overall stellar defense. Going into the fourth quarter, CC was leading 62-32. Columbia's defense limited CIU to only 6 points in the final quarter while outscoring them by 16 to help them cruise to an easy win.
CC shot 42.5 percent overall and 38.5 percent from behind the three-point line. They held CIU to only 27 percent shooting and just 10 percent from the three-point line while forcing 28 CIU turnovers.
Columbia is now 17-9 on the season securing their most wins in school history and 10-9 in the AAC to sit in 7th place with three games left.
The Koalas look to continue their success this Saturday when they go on the road to face Tennessee Wesleyan at 2:00 pm.
