Columbia Women's Hoops Stifles Brenau for 18th Win
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's basketball team rolled to a 65-56 stifling win over conference foe Brenau University (Ga.) at home Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Lady Koalas, led by head coach JJ Green, improve to 18-10 overall continuing their school-record win total while also securing their 11th AAC win, which is also a new school record. The win also secures Columbia's playoff spot and top 8 conference finish. The Koalas will now head into next week's conference tournament as either the #7 or #8 seed.
CC got out to a 17-14 lead after the opening quarter before going on a second quarter run to go up by as much as 11 in the first half at 34-23. Columbia, however, led by just four at the break. CC then held the Tigers (6-15) to only 11 points in the third quarter while out scoring them by five to take a 50-41 lead.
Columbia led by as much as 15 in the fourth with 5 minutes left, before cruising to the 9-point win. Sophomore guard Tysonia "Sunshine" Lowe led the Koalas with 14 points and 3 rebounds while junior wing Makayla Street added 12 points and 3 steals off the bench.
Junior Guard Layla Wall and senior forward Tamyra Davis also finished in double-figure scoring notching 13 and 11 points respectively. Davis led with six rebounds while also tallying 2 steals while Wall had 3 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist. Senior shooting guard Callie Hermanson chipped in 7 points.
The ladies return to action on Saturday for their final home game of the season as they celebrate Senior Day in a 2:00 pm tip off against Reinhardt University.
