Koalas Open Season with a Tie on the Road at Carolina University

BERMUDA RUN, NC- Despite an early setback in their season opener, the Columbia College Women's Soccer team fought back to record a season opening 1-1 tie on the road at the Carolina University Bruins on Friday evening.

In sweltering conditions, the Koalas fell behind early to a quality strike from range from the Bruins in just the third minute of the game.  After taking some time to get their bearings, Columbia began to press forward and put pressure on the Bruins defense, which eventually paid off in the 40th minute.

Junior center back Kylie Stewart's pass found Senior Kayann Glass, and she flicked the ball around the corner for the run of Junior Jordan Myers. Myers dribbled towards goal before firing the ball across the Bruins keeper and inside the far post for her first goal of the season and 30th of her career to knot the score at 1-1.

The second half started off with two great chances for the Koalas, as Myers just missed within the first minute of the half before moments later her cross found Glass who was denied by a good save by the Bruins keeper.

Columbia's rookie goalkeeper Teagan Eisenring was called into action later in the half, as she had to react quickly to parry away a deflected shot that looked destined to loop into the back of the net.

Despite some late pressure on both goals, neither team could find a winner and the game finished in a 1-1 draw with both teams rueing missed chances.

After a weekend break, the Koalas will be back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Toccoa Falls, GA for a 6PM kickoff against the Screaming Eagles.
