Koalas Battle Back to Pick Up AAC Tie vs CIU

COLUMBIA, SC- The Columbia College Koalas picked up their first conference point of the year after battling back to a 2-2 tie against cross-town rivals CIU.

After their game was suspended at half time over the weekend at Johnson University, the Koalas struggled to gain a foothold in the game due to quality play from the Rams.

A header off a corner from the Rams opened the scoring before a good combination from CIU doubled the lead to put the Koalas in a two goal hole.

Pulling a goal back before halftime would be crucial for the Koalas, and Junior Jordan Myers was fouled in the box in the 21st minute to give her the opportunity to do just that.

Myers confidently dispatched the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2-1 with her fourth goal of the year, and give the Koalas some momentum throughout the rest of the half and into the second stanza.

With just over fourteen minutes remaining in the game, the Koalas turned to a new face to find the equalizer.  Sophomore transfer Alyssa Collins found Super Senior Madison Stewart with a square ball, before her through ball was eventually won by fellow transfer Kathryn Mobley. Mobley steadied herself before firing a shot over the Rams keeper and into the net for her first goal for the Koalas to make it 2-2.

Despite other chances for both teams, the game ended in a draw as both sides picked up a valuable point within the conference standings.

Other Koalas with standout performances in the game included Senior Josie Vega and Senior Lakelee Aldrich, while first year goalkeeper Teagan Eisenring made a couple of quality saves throughout the game.

The Koalas return home for their first home regular season game of the year on Thursday when they host Pfeiffer University in a 6PM kickoff.
