Koalas Declaw Bears as Columbia Outlasts Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, KY- The Columbia College Koalas scored two goals in the first eleven minutes en route to a 3-1 AAC victory at the University of Pikeville on Wednesday afternoon in Pikeville, KY.

Both teams entered the game with similar records in the conference so far, with each looking to push themselves up the standings with an important win.  It was the Koalas who would open up the game just seven minutes into the match, as Brooke Piscitello was on hand to head home Madison Stewart's shot which had rebounded off the crossbar to give Columbia the 1-0 lead.

Just over four minutes later, Jordan Myers scored her first goal of the game when she latched onto a pass from Kinzly Cohen and raced past a defender before beating the keeper with a stinging shot to make it 2-0.

The second half started in favor of the Bears, as they were able to cut the deficit in half in the 57th minute to make the score 2-1.

Just over a minute later, however, the two goal cushion for the Koalas was restored, as Myers was fouled in the box for a penalty. She finished calmly, scoring her fourth penalty of the season, to make it 3-1 to Columbia and complete the scoring for the game.

Overall, Columbia and Pikeville played out a fairly even contest on the stat sheet, with the shot count finishing 10-10 and Teagan Eisenring matching the Bears keeper with four saves each.

The Koalas have a quick turnaround this week as they return home to host the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs on Friday afternoon at 3:30PM.
