Koalas Shutout Lions In AAC Action

COLUMBIA, SC- Jordan Myers scored a brace and Kylie Stewart added her first goal of the season as the Columbia College Koalas shutout the Bryan College Lions 3-0 at Younts Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Having not scored in their last 2 1/2 games, the Koalas were eager to get back into the scoring column against the highly competitive Lions.

Fourteen minutes in, Kinzly Cohen received a pass from goalkeeper Teagan Eisenring, and after a bit of skill, her through ball found the streaking Myers who scored her 14th goal of the season to make it 1-0.

Eighteen minutes later it was 2-0, as Madison Stewart found Myers again and the forward did well to beat the onrushing Lions keeper to double the lead.

The first half was relatively quiet on chances, with just four shots between the two teams, as the Koalas led 3-1 in the shot column.

Despite an increased output offensively in the second half with their creativity, it took until the 88th minute for Columbia to add to their lead.

Madison Stewart's drop found Kylie Stewart about forty yards out, and her high, looping shot found the top corner to make it 3-0 to the Koalas.

Defensively, Teagan Eisenring picked up her first shutout of the year within the AAC, while the back line of Kianna Dodge, Lakelee Aldrich, Sammie McDaniel, Kimia Hughey, and Alyssa Collins did well to stifle a talented Lions unit.

Offensively, the Koalas outshot the Lions 10-2 for the game.

Columbia returns to AAC action on Tuesday the 17th when they travel to St. Andrews for a 3PM kickoff.
