COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's soccer team fell 2-1 at home to rival Columbia International Wednesday evening.
CIU broke through first with a goal in the 41st minute to take a 1-0 lead into the break. Minutes before that goal, the Lady Koalas thought they had scored their first goal, but it was waived off due to an offsides penalty. Columbia still held a 6-3 shot advantage through the first half.
Sophomore Goalkeeper Teagan Eisenring finished making two saves on four shots on goal while senior forward Jordan Myers led with 3 shots and two on goal including two that hit the crossbar. Myers did, however, tie the game at one apiece early in the second half with her penalty shot goal in the 51st minute.
CIU then scored the game-winning goal in the 67th minute to lead 2-1 and hang on for the win as Columbia outshot the Rams 8-2 in the second half, but could not find the tying goal.
The Lady Koalas fall to 2-3 on the year and 0-2 in the AAC while CIU improves to 3-1 and 3-0 in the conference.
The women will remain home to finish out their homestand by hosting Reinhardt University (GA) Saturday at 3:30 pm.
