Women's Soccer's Rally Falls Short in 2-1 Defeat

KNOXVILLE, TN - The Columbia College women's soccer team mounted a late rally in their road conference matchup on Saturday but would fall a goal short, 2-1 to Johnson University in Tennessee.

JU got on the board first scoring in the 38th minute of action to go up 1-0 at the break and take a 4-1 shot count advantage into the intermission.

Johnson then added an insurance goal in the 59th minute of action on Saturday to take a 2-0 lead on the Koalas. However, Columbia would strike back in the 84th minute with an unassisted goal from senior defender Alyssa Collins to pull the Lady Koalas to within one goal with 6 minutes to play.

Columbia would outshoot the Royals 4-3 in the second half while junior keeper Teagan Eisenring made three saves on five shots on goal. Junior midfielder Kaky Sears led the Koalas with 3 shots total while midfielder Kinzly Cohen also had a shot on goal in the loss.

Columbia falls to 5-5-4 overall and 2-5-3 in the conference to remain at 9 points while Johnson improved to 5-8-1 and 4-7 in the AAC with 12 points.

The Koalas will next head up the road to Spartanburg to take on AAC rival SMC on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.
