Lady Koala Swimming places 4th at AACs

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Milligan captured its third consecutive Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Swimming Championship, finishing with 957 total points. The three-day event was held in Kingsport, Tenn. at the Kingsport Aquatic Center in the HMG Competition Pool.

Rounding out the team scores, Brenau (Ga.) finished second with 465 points, Union College (KY) was third with 422 points, and the Lady Koala swim team came in fourth out of six schools with 298 points. WVU Tech (233) and Pikeville (KY) (29) completed the field.

The women's 200 yard medley relay team finished 5th in 2:11 led by freshman Isabelle Jensen swimming the anchor leg in 28 seconds. Senior Avy Ayn Watts led off the relay followed by sophomore Giuliana Schiavon and senior Kayla Harmon. Later in the 400 Medley Relay, the team was led by Jensen in the opening leg followed by Watts, Schiavon, and Piedra-Fernandez as they fnished 4th in 4:52. Piedra then led the team in the 400 Free Relay finishing her leg in a team-best 27.6 seconds to help the team place 4th in 4:06.

Columbia was then led by junior Andrea Piedra-Fernandez coming in 7th out of 12 in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:58.9 while Jensen came in 9th in 6:10. Harmon and freshman Annabelle Lee also competed in the 50 Free but did not quaify for finals as they placed 12th and 13th respectively. Harmon swam it in 28.6 seconds while Lee was right behind in 31.7.

The Koala's 200 Free Relay team then placed 5th in a time of 1:52 led again by Jensen in the anchor leg in 27.2 seconds. Watts, Harmon, and Piedra also competed. Schiavon placed 3rd in the 400 IM in 5:29 while Piedra-Fernandez and Jensen each finished 8th and 9th in the 200 Free in 2:15. Harmon and Lee also swam in the 100 Backstroke and placed 15th and 16th in 1:17 and 1:19 respectively.

In the 1,650 yard Freestyle, the women were led by Piedra-Fernandez placing 4th in 21:19 while Watts came in 5th in 22:35 as the two combined for 29 team points. In the 200 Backstroke, Columbia was led by Jensen placing 7th in 2:24.9, just 19 seconds off the winning time. Watts then led the team in the 100 Free placing 12th in 1:01 while Harmon was 13th in 1:06. Schiavon also placed 6th in the 200 Butterfly in 2:47.
