Swimming Falls in Opener at Piedmont
Tallulah Falls, Ga. - The Columbia College men's and women's swim teams competed in their season opener on Friday in the Piedmont University meet in Georgia. Even though both programs were defeated by Div. III Piedmont, the Koalas came away with some quality results.
The women's team put up 53 points while the men scored 22. Leading the women was sophomore Kayle Buss who finished 2nd out of 4 in the 50 yard Breaststroke in a time of 36 seconds while freshman teammate Sabrina Schiavon was right behind in 4th in 37.5 seconds. Buss also placed 2nd in the 100 Backstroke in 1:08 while Schiavon was 2nd in the 100 Breast in 1:22. Buss then placed 3rd in the 100 yard IM with a time of 1:09.9 while Schiavon was 4th in 1:13.
Senior Kayla Harmon also swam well in the 50 yard Backstroke placing third in 35.7 seconds while senior teammate Lucy Ellisor was 5th in 43.2 seconds. Senior Andrea Piedra also finished 2nd in the 1000 yard Freestyle with a time of 13:10. Sophomore Isabelle Jensen led the Lady Koalas in the 50 yard Free placing 3rd of 5 in a time of 29.5 seconds while Harmon swam across in 32 seconds. Jensen and Piedra also swam the 100 Free placing 4th and 5th with times of 1:03.5.
The women's 200 free Relay team also swam a good race placing 2nd out of 3 in 1:58 featuring Schiavon, Jensen, Piedra, and Harmon. The 200 Medley Relay team also placed 3rd in 2:08, just 3 seconds behind 2nd and it featured Buss, Schiavon, Jensen and junior Giuliana Schiavon.
