
Koala Swimming Sweeps Greensboro
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Columbia College men's and women's swim teams picked up two team dual meet victories over the weekend defeating NCAA Div. III Greensboro College on the road.
The women won 92-77 while the men won by a score of 78-29.
The men's 400 yard Medley relay team won with a time of 4:50 and included Stefan Merkel, Thomas Remely, Noah Jackson, and Jamal Johnson. The women's 400 medley relay team then finished 2nd in 4:55 and included Isabelle Jensen, Sabrina Schiavon, Giuliana Schiavon, and Andrea Piedra.
Piedra, Jensen, and the Schiavon sisters then helped the women finish 2nd in the 400 Free Relay in 4:32 for four team points while the men's 400 Free relay team was 1st in 4:23 led by Jackson in the first leg, followed by Remely, Merkel, and Johnson.
Piedra swam a time of 13:12 in the 1000 yard Freestyle while also swimming the 500 Free in 6:20. Jensen swam the 200 Free in 2:31 while Johnson swam the men's 200 free in 2:24 as well. Johnson also swam the 500 free in 6:48.
Sophomore Annabelle Lee then finished 2nd in the 100 Backstroke in 1:22 while Sabrina won the 100 yard Breaststroke out of 4 competitors in a time of 1:25. Her sister Giuliana then swam a time of 2:49 in the 200 Fly while also swimming the 100 Fly in 1:15.9. In the men's 100 Fly, Noah Jackson won the race in 1:12 for 9 points.
Columbia was led by Merkel and Remely as they virtually tied for 2nd in the 100 breast in a time of 1:21 to earn seven team points. Lee then led the women in the 50 Free placing 2nd in 33.1 seconds while Lucy Ellisor was 3rd in 35.2 seconds. In the men's 50 Free, Jackson came in 2nd in 28.7.
Merkel then won the 100 Free in 1:02 while Jensen won the women's 200 Backstroke in 2:52. Sabrina Schiavon then just missed winning the 200 Breast coming across in 3:07 while Remely won for the men in 3:07 as well.
The swim teams will next prepare for the AAC championships that take place from Feb. 6-8 at the Kingsport Aquatic Center in Tennessee.
