Women's Tennis Knocks off Maryville

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's tennis team edged Div. III foe Maryville College 4-3 at home on Friday afternoon. 

The ladies' top doubles team of senior Mariane Lima and sophomore Aniya Sims rolled to a 6-2 win while their second team of junior Helena Jovanovic and freshman Vienne Geren lost 6-3. However, Maryville snagged the doubles point with a forfeit win at the third line as CC only has five players at the moment.

In the singles, Columbia won 4 of the 5 matches as Lima and Jokanovic cruised past their opponents 6-1, 6-0 at the top two lines while sophomore Joye Tate won 6-2, 6-2 at the 5th spot to give CC a 3-2 lead. Geren fell 1-6, 1-6 at the 4 spot before Sims clinched the match with a huge three set win at the 3rd spot winning 6-7, 6-2, 6-3.

The women will now host another Div. III foe, Salem College (NC) today at 1:00 PM.
