Lady Koalas Rally Falls short at Brenau

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - The Columbia College women's tennis team went on the road Wednesday to conference foe Brenau University but saw their late rally come up short in the 5-2 loss.

Brenau got the quick 1-0 lead after doubles as they won 6-2, 6-1 in the top two doubles matches over the teams of Helena Jokanovic/Mariane Lima and Aniya Sims/Vienne Geren.

Then in singles, Brenau went up 3-0 as they won 6-0, 6-0 at the 4 spot and 6-0, 6-4 over Sims at the 3 spot, with Aniya's second set rally falling short. Columbia then came back winning third set tiebreakers at the 2 line and 5 line to get within 3-2, but Brenau powered ahead with wins at the top line and 6 line for the victory.

Jokanovic, a junior, fell 3-6, 1-6 at the top spot, but the Koalas then saw sophomore Joye Tate come back to win 1-6, 7-5, 10-8 at the 5th line while senior Mariane Lima went on to win 3-6, 6-4, 10-3 at the two spot as she wore down her opponent.

The Lady Koalas have a quick turnaround as they are set to host tough Div. II foe, Anderson University (SC) on Thursday at 2:00 pm.
