Lady Koala Tennis Slip by Johnson 4-3

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College women's tennis team held on to slip by conference foe Johnson University (TN) 4-3 at home on Friday afternoon.

The Koala women dominated the singles matches winning 4 of the 6 to clinch the conference win while Johnson won 2 of 3 doubles matches. 

Winning singles matches to lead the women were junior Natalia Diaz and senior Helena Jokanovic at the top two spots and junior Aniya Sims and freshman Rachel Thompson at the 5 and 6 spots respectively.  All four ladies won in straight sets while Diaz and Jokanovic combined to lose just two games outscoring their foes 24-2. Diaz double-bageled her foe 6-0, 6-0 while Helena won 6-2, 6-0. Sims then won 6-4, 7-5 while Thompson 6-2, 6-4. 

Sims and Jokanovic also teamed up to win the #1 doubles match 6-4.

The Koala women improve to 6-3 overall and 2-3 in the AAC while JU falls to 1-5 in conference and 5-9 overall.

The Columbia tennis teams will next be in action on Tuesday afternoon when they remain home to host Montreat College at 2:00 pm.
