Women's Track & Field Compete at Anderson's Electric City Invite

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Columbia College men's & women's track and field teams competed at the Div. II Electric City Invitational in Anderson, SC last weekend at Anderson University.

Women's Track Events

Freshman Kwamecia Marks led the women in the sprints running a time of 13.2 seconds in the 100 Meters to place 22nd out of 31. Fellow freshman Myikayla Howard then finished an impressive 7th overall out of 30 in the 200 Meters running a time of 25.4 seconds for her personal record.

The Lady Koalas then placed 1st and 2nd in the 5000 meter Race Walk as the Whatley sisters led the pack. Victoria won the race in 27:07 while her sister Jessica was 2nd in 27:20.

In the jumping events, freshman Makayla Blango led the charge placing 9th of 16 in the Long Jump with a mark of 5 meters, the second-best NAIA time in the event. She then finished 10th out of 15 in the Triple Jump with a mark of 10.7 meters and only one meter off the top NAIA time in the event.

Women Field Events 

Senior Anaya Canty placed 10th of 18 in the  Discus with a throw of 31.6 meters for her new personal record. Also, freshman Justina Renke placed 14th at 28.3 meters. 

 

Renke  then led the Koalas in the Hammer Throw placing 5th out of 23 with a throw of 38.7 meters with freshman Autumn Buzzard right behind in 14th at 32.18 meters.  Senior Kayla Harmon was also 15th in 32.1 meters as well.

Freshman Doreshia McAllister led the Koalas in the Javelin placing 9th out of 28 with a personal record of 30.9 meters while Justina Renke was right behind her placing 12th at 29.4 meters. Holmes was also 17th in 25.1 meters while Jada Robinson came in 23rd with a throw of 21.5 meters. 

Finally, Zaida Carson placed 10th in the Shot Put out of 22 with a mark of 10.4 meters while Freshman Azia Holmes was 12th at 10.2 Meters. Buzzard then came in 14th in 9.8 meters.

The Koalas are next traveling to nearby CIU to compete at the AAC Track & Field Championship this weekend April 18-20th
