Cavaliers Sweep Koalas in Three Sets to Secure AAC Victory

MONTREAT, NC- Columbia College Volleyball hit the road on Tuesday night for more Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) action. The Koalas fell to the Cavaliers in straight sets, 25-20, 25-15, 25-22.

THE BASICS:

With the loss, the Koalas fall to 2-10 overall and 0-8 in AAC play. Montreat has an overall record of 6-4 and improves to 3-4 in AAC action with the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The two sides went back and forth throughout the first set; the Cavaliers held their most significant lead (5) six times and ultimately held on to win by the same amount.

The Cavaliers controlled the pace in the second set by jumping out to an early 5-2 lead. From there, the hosts began to build some cushion, eventually leading 16-10, forcing a Columbia timeout. After the timeout, the Koalas chipped away, but the deficit was too much as the Cavaliers held on to go up 2-0.

The third set was the most competitive of the night and went down to the wire. With the score at 22-20, Montreat ripped off two consecutive points to earn a match point. With the game on the line, though, Columbia dug deep to pull themselves within two at 22-24, but the Cavaliers held off the comeback effort to complete the sweep.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

Destiny Brown posted a .462 Kill%, posting eight kills, her best of the season.

Debra Shephard and Leticia Assen combined for 21 assists in the setter role, 10 and 11, respectively; Shephard also tied teammate Lexi Reeser with a team-high seven digs.

The Koalas return to action on Friday at 6:30 PM when they travel to the newest AAC member school, Pikeville.
