Columbia Drops Rematch with Clinton
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College volleyball team fell in four sets at home Tuesday evening against nearby NCCAA foe Clinton College.
Columbia won the first set 25-21 before the Golden Bears took the second 25-17. Clinton then held off a valiant Koala rally in the third set to take it 25-20 before Clinton closed it out 25-11 in the fourth to pick up the win on 14 kills making just one error.
Columbia totaled 41 kills in the match to Clinton's 35, but the Koalas made 40 attack errors leading to the defeat.
The Koalas were led by senior OH Jada Gentry's career-high double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs while sophomore setter Debra Shephard led the team with 19 assists, 3 kills, four digs and an ace.
Senior middle blocker Destiny Brown recorded five kills along with a block and four digs while fellow senior middle Mikayla Stout registered 4 kills and 3 solo blocks.
Senior OH Gracie Hicklin also had six kills, 7 digs and three aces while freshman right side hitter Tamia Fripp recorded a season-best 7 kills.
Freshman libero Katie Roberts led the team with 11 digs along with 2 assists and an ace while setter Savanna Logan tallied 11 assists, 4 digs and 2 kills as well.
Clinton improves to 3-0 while Columbia fell to 0-4. The Koalas will next remain home to host NAIA foe, Morris College on Thursday at 6:30 pm.
