Koala Volleyball Drops Match to Reinhardt

COLUMBIA, SC – The  Columbia College women's volleyball team hosted Reinhardt University in their home opening AAC matchup on Saturday morning from the Godbold Center. Unfortunately, the Koalas fell via a 3-0 score (25-14, 25-15, 25-11). 

The first set saw the Eagles hit .414 as a team with 16 kills while the Koalas attacked well in the first set recording 9 kills and hitting .172 led by a team-best 6 kills on the day from senior OH Gracie Hicklin along with her five digs. The Koalas totaled 24 kills and 38 digs in the match while RU had 38 kills and hit .341.

Columbia stayed with the Eagles  during the second set, however, getting out to an early 7-4 lead led by three aces in a row from Gentry and continued to lead 11-9 until RU went on an 11-1 run to go up 20-12. RU would then close out the set 25-15.

Outside hitter Jada Gentry had five kills, 5 digs, and three serve aces while freshman right side hitter Tamia Fripp had a good day with four kills and a dig hitting .231. Senior middle hitters Destiny Brown and Mikayla Stout also combined for 7 kills and 2 blocks.

Freshman libero Katie Roberts led the Koalas with a season-high 15 digs while sophomore setter Debra Shephard totaled 20 assists, two kills and four digs. Junior DS Amanda Velez also added 8 digs and an ace.

Reinhardt improves to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the AAC while the Koalas fell to 1-7 and 0-2. Columbia will next head on the road to battle rival St. Andrews on Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM.
