CLEVELAND, GA - The Koalas were right back in action on Saturday when they continued their Georgia road trip facing Truett-McConnell Univ. and Life University (Ga.) in a tri-match.
However, the Lady Koalas fell in three very close sets to Truett 3-0. They fell 23-25, 23-25, and 20-25 totaling an impressive 36 kills led by Jada Gentry's 11 and 15 digs recording a double-double. Gentry also had an ace and a block. Columbia hit 16 kills in the first set at .180 and 14 kills in the second at .140.
Setter Debra Shephard also played well, tallying 29 assists, 2 kills, and 12 digs with 2 blocks for another double-double. Freshman Libero Katie Roberts totaled 16 digs also while senior DS Amanda Velez played well too with 13 digs, an ace and a kill. Senior middles Mikayla Stout and Destiny Brown combined for 14 kills with Stout adding three blocks. Senior OH Gracie Hicklin added 7 kills and 4 digs also.
CC then fell 3-0 to Life (12-25, 14-25, and 23-25) as their rally fell short. Life compiled 14 kills in the first set hitting .235 while holding CC to three kills. Life then hit .462 in the secone with 15 kills to win it 25-14 before a very competitive third set saw the Koalas out-kill the Eagles 9-6 while getting out to leads of 10-6 and 14-11. Life would then take a 23-21 lead before CC tied it at 23. However, Life won the next two points to close it out.
Gentry led the team again with six kills along with 12 digs and two aces while Roberts had 14 digs to lead the Koalas. DS Dani Goings and fellow DS Velez combined for 9 digs and an ace while Shephard added 12 assists and a kill with fellow setter Leticia Assen recording 3 assists and four digs. Hicklin led the team with 3 aces along with 2 kills while Brown added 4 kills, two aces, and a block in the middle. Savannah Logan also had 2 kills and a block.
The Koalas will next return home to host St. Andrews on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
