Gentry's 17 Kills Not Enough on Dig Pink Night

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia College volleyball team took on conference foe Bryan College (TN) Friday night from the Godbold Center on Dig Pink Night, but fell 3-1 after a terrific effort.

Bryan (6-16, 5-10 AAC) rallied from five points to win the opening set 25-20 before the Koalas took control of the second set to win 25-19. BC then came from behind again to take the third set 25-20 before controlling the fourth 25-13 for the win. CC had 13 kills in the first set to Bryan's 12 as CC hit .250. Columbia then had an impressive 16 kills in the second set while hitting .303 to dominate the set. bryan then added 15 kills in the third and 11 more in the fourth as they found their rhythm. CC had 11 kills in the third and 10 more in the 4th for a total of 50 kills at .185 clip.

Senior OH Jada Gentry led the Koalas with a career-high 17 kills hitting .220 along with 17 digs and an ace. Senior middle Destiny Brown also added 12 kills and 3 blocks to hit .261. The season-high kills now gives her 112 on the year along with 150 digs and over 500 digs in her three-year career.

Senior OH Gracie Hicklin recorded 7 kills with an ace and a dig while freshman RS Tamia Fripp registered 8 kills. Sophomore setter Debra Shephard contributed a season-high 44 assists along with 4 kills, an ace and 3 digs. Freshman Katie Roberts picked up 20 digs as well with two assists. 

Columbia (3-16, 2-10 AAC) returns right back to the court on Saturday to host Tennessee Wesleyan at 11 AM.
