Gentry, Shephard and Brown's Career Nights Not Enough in 3-1 Loss to Truett

COLUMBIA, SC - The Columbia College volleyball team fell 3-1 against conference foe Truett-McConnell University (Ga.) at home Wednesday despite career offensive nights from seniors Jada Gentry and Destiny Brown.

Gentry and Brown combined for 33 kills on the night as Gentry hit .231 with a season-high tying 17 kills and 13 digs while Brown hit a team-best .480 with a career-high 16 kills and 2 blocks. Gentry's double-double was her 5th of the season.

TMU controlled the first set taking it 25-19 before the Koalas posted 16 kills in the second to hold off the Bears and win it 25-23. CC then trailed 17-11 midway through the third set before rallying to tie the match at 24 finishing up a 13-7 run. However, TMU held off the Koalas to take the pivotal third set 26-24 as the two schools combined for 29 kills in the set. The 4th set then saw TMU pull away late to take it 25-20. CC totaled 52 kills in the match including double-digit kills in 3 of 4 sets.

Sophomore Setter Debra Shephard also set a career-high with 48 assists along with 14 digs to post her 4th double-double while freshman libero Katie Roberts and senior DS Amanda Velez combined for 16 digs with Velez also adding three aces. Senior OH Gracie Hicklin also recorded 8 kills and 5 digs while freshman RSH Tamia Fripp posted 7 kills.

CC falls to 4-18 overall and 3-12 in the conference while TMU improved to 11-15 overall and 8-8 in the AAC.

Columbia returns to action on Friday night to host Montreat College (NC) in a 6:30 pm serve.
